FERRIC CHLORIDE USES
Ferric chloride Etching Agent
Etching Agent
This compound also behaves as a strong etching agent for metals, mainly copper and its alloys, etching Iron, and stainless steel as well. It is used in printed circuit board manufacturing to etch the extra copper and design circuit patterns. Its flexibility made it popular among artists and other craft smiths, as it freshened the etchant, extending its time until expiration.
Ferric Chloride Etching Agent
A small amount of Ferric Chloride is poured into a plastic container with a lid that completely covers the board. Then the board is soaked for 10 minutes, ensuring the lid is properly secured, and the container is then shaken every few minutes. After 10 minutes, the board is checked for copper.
If it is visible, the board is removed using a latex glove. The board is then dried with a disposable rag to get rid of all Ferric Chloride from the board. Rinse the board. It is then rinsed with acetone, which will show the traces that are safe. With the help of marker ink, this completes the etching process.
