FERRIC CHLORIDE USES
Other Uses
Metal Surface Treatment :
Iron chloride helps in cleaning and preparing metal surfaces for soldering, coating, and painting. It helps in the removal of rust, scale, and other impurities from the metal surface.
Pigment Production :
This compound is used in the production of pigments like iron oxide pigments, which are used in dyes, coatings, and paints.it is used in the making of Prussian blue dye. Ferrocyanide and ferric ion from the chloride creates the pigment when the two irons are in different oxidation states.
Materials needed for the making of dye are potassium ferrocyanide and Iron (III)-chloride. It works as a good dehydrating agent and as an oxidant useful in the process of making indigo blue dye.
Catalyst :
Iron Chloride works as a catalyst in certain chemical reactions, like the production of organic compounds and the process of dye synthesis.
Analytical Chemistry :
It is also used as a reagent in laboratories for various analyses and chemical tests. For example, it can be used in the detection of phenols and the determination of chloride ions in a solution.
To remove Aluminum from mirrors :
Most of the mirror coatings are made of metal. Aluminum and silver are among them. Their reflective qualities make them popular. Silver reflects 95% of light, whereas aluminum can still reflect 90% of light. Mirror aluminum coatings are removed while still preserving the finish with Ferric Chloride.
